Raza and Sadaf Hasan

For Raza and Sadaf Hasan, supporting Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital became even more important once Oakville, along with the rest of Canada had been severely impacted by COVID-19.

“We understood that our community’s medical resources were being stretched thin and our frontline health workers need our support”, said Sadaf.

Sadaf and her husband have been generously contributing to Oakville Hospital Foundation, both as donors and volunteers. Raza is a Director on the Oakville Hospital Foundation Board and Sadaf is a member of the Foundation’s community engagement committee. In addition to their own philanthropy, they—along with a group of their friends—launched a campaign in 2020 to raise funds through a Ramadan and Eid fundraising drive for the COVID-19 Response Fund. To inspire others to join the initiative, Raza and Sadaf generously offered to match donations, dollar for dollar, up to the first $25,000, if the campaign raised $50,000.

“Celebrating the blessed month of Ramadan has not been like celebrations in the past,” shared Sadaf. “Raza and I felt what better time than now to extend those blessings and support those who need our help, especially the physicians and staff at OTMH.”

In addition to fundraising, and through the generous donation from Happy Pops Inc, the family also dropped off 3,000 healthy snacks to the frontline workers at Oakville Hospital. “When I put out the open call for support, I knew Muslim-Canadians and friends of the community near and far would give back to this community that has given its residents so much,” explained Raza. “It’s truly been a team effort involving individuals from all age groups. We asked for people to get involved, dig deep into their pockets and into their hearts and help us make this campaign a success. And they did.”
